Horticulture Department deals with the production and maintenance of fruits, vegetables, and flowers, spices mushroom, medicinal and aromatic plants.
The area of plant agriculture known as horticulture deals with garden crops, primarily fruits, vegetables, and ornamental plants. Its root words are hortus, which means "garden," and colere, which means "to cultivate." All garden management techniques are included under this umbrella word, although in everyday usage, it refers to heavy commercial output. Although all forms of cultivation inherently have tight ties, horticulture is positioned between backyard gardening and field agriculture in terms of scale.
Pomology and olericulture, two subfields of horticulture, deal with the production of plants for food, whereas floriculture and landscape horticulture deal with ornamental plants. Fruit and nut crops are the focus of pomology. Olericulture focuses on growing herbaceous plants that are suitable for human consumption. Some examples of these plants include carrots (edible root), asparagus (edible stem), lettuce (edible leaf), cauliflower (edible flower buds), tomatoes (edible fruit), and peas (edible seed). The practise of floriculture involves growing cut flowers, potted plants, and greens as aesthetic plants and flowers. A large area known as "landscape horticulture" covers plants for the landscape, including turf for lawns but especially nursery crops like shrubs, trees, and vines.
